Week of February 252/25/2019 Important Dates
February 25 - March 1 Dr. Seuss dress-up days. Monday-Hat Day Tuesday- Sweats and Slippers Day Wednesday-Wacky clothes for Wacky Wednesday Thursday-Travel shirt day Friday-Arrowhead Spirit day BEFORE SCHOOL READING, except Monday: Tuesday and Thursday - 8:00-8:15 silent reading in the gym. Wednesday and Friday - 8:00-8:15 Guest readers in the gym. MUST BE IN THE GYM BY 8:00 TO PARTICIPATE. Peak Due to Spring sports, starting next week, PEAK will no longer be on Fridays. It will continue on Mondays and Thursdays. Calling all Arrowhead Students to participate in the Arrowhead Science Fair! This is OPTIONAL for all grades, K-5. Friday, March 22 in the Arrowhead Gym. ELA-We are exploring the question, "Why are natural resources valuable?" The literature we will be looking at this week focuses on Expository Text. For vocabulary we will be using words in context clues. We will focus on the comprehension strategy of summarization. Our comprehension skill focus will be author's point of view. We will use context clues as a vocabulary strategy. For grammar we will learn about possessive pronouns. The focus in spelling this week is words with cher ,ture, and sure. Your child has access to Spelling City at home. Math-The students will creating models to find the fractional part of group, model the product of a fraction and a whole number, multiply fractions and whole numbers, and multiply fractions using models. There is a great website called mrmathblog.com that actually teaches lessons from our 5th grade Go Math textbook. If your child has homework and needs to correct their paper, this is a great place for them to be retaught the lesson. Social Studies-The students started a unit on the exploration of North America. We will learn about the 13 colonies and the factors that shaped British Colonial America. Writing-We begin another narrative paper and write a paragraph about an influential person. Science- The students are beginning a unit on the water cycle. Week of February 122/11/2019 Important Dates

This is OPTIONAL for all grades, K-5. Friday, March 22 in the Arrowhead Gym. ELA-We continue to explore the question, What can you discover when you give things a second look? The literature we will be continuing to look at this week focuses on drama-mystery. For vocabulary we will be using words in context clues. We will focus on the comprehension strategy of ask and answer questions. Our comprehension skill focus will be visualization and point of view. We will use adages and proverbs as a vocabulary strategy. For grammar we will learn about kinds of pronouns. The focus in spelling this week is prefixes. Your child has access to Spelling City at home. Math-The students will adding and subtract fractions and unlike denominators using models, diagrams , or arithmetic. We will have an assessment this week. Social Studies-The students will present a talk show about explorers. Writing-We will finish an narrative paper. Science- Ms. MartinThis is my 13th year teaching in Billings Public Schools. I was born and raised in Billings and attended Billings Public Schools! I love spending time with my family. My daughter graduated from U of M and I love to go and visit her and watch the Grizzly football games. Sorry Cat fans! My son graduated from Billings Public High School and is playing golf for MSU-Billings. If I am not with my family, you can usually find me walking my golden retrievers Lola and Winston.
