11/30-Report Cards sent home 11/30-Toys for Tots donations due December 12-Yellowstone Art Museum Field Trip PEAK UPDATE: Friday, December 14th (Dodge ball tournament at Orchard Elementary) Thursday, December 20th (community service day - NO PEAK) Friday, December 21st (last day before break - NO PEAK) ELA-We will be working on a unit in Wonders that explores the question What motivates you to accomplish a goal? The literature we are looking at this week focuses on realistic fiction and poetry. We will focus on the comprehension skill of theme and the literary elements of repetition and rhyme. We will learn about homographs and prepositional phrases. The focus in spelling this week is closed syllables. Your child has access to Spelling City at home. Math-The students will round, compare, read, and write decimals through thousandths. We will begin adding and subtracting decimals. Social Studies-The students are learning the explorers reasons for exploration and their accomplishments. This week they will create an explorer poster showing why they are important. Writing-We will begin writing an expository paper. Science- The students are learning about space. The literature we are looking at this week focuses on folktales and comprehension skills of text prediction and theme. We will review contractions. The focus in spelling this week is also contractions. Your child has access to Spelling City at home. Math-The students will review long division and interpret remainders. We will begin decimal addition. Social Studies-This week we continue our unit on European Explorers. Writing-We will review their narrative writing piece. Science- The students are completing a unit on space! Parent Teacher Conferences this week!11/5/2018 I am looking forward to seeing all of you at Parent/Teacher Conferences. Your child is signed up for Xtra Math at school. However, it would be very beneficial if they practiced at home. Xtra Math helps with the fluency of multiplication and division. I see many of the students still looking at a multiplication chart for help. This is will make math very frustrating as most math skills we work on involve multiplication and multi-steps. If you need the sign up code sent home again, just send me an email. The literature we are looking at this week focuses on biographies and comprehension skills of text structure-sequence. We will learn about words with Greek and Latin suffixes. The focus in spelling this week is inflectional endings. Your child has access to Spelling City at home. Math-The students will learn many strategies for long division and learn how to check their work. Social Studies-This week we start our unit on European Explorers. What brought them here and why. The students tic-tac-toe projects on a Montana Tribe that they chose is due Friday. We will not have anymore class time to work on it. If they are not finished with their project, it must be finished at home. Writing-We are continuing to working on a narrative writing piece. Science- The students are starting a unit on space! Ms. MartinThis is my 13th year teaching in Billings Public Schools. I was born and raised in Billings and attended Billings Public Schools! I love spending time with my family. My daughter graduated from U of M and I love to go and visit her and watch the Grizzly football games. Sorry Cat fans! My son graduated from Billings Public High School and is playing golf for MSU-Billings. If I am not with my family, you can usually find me walking my golden retrievers Lola and Winston.
